Ophelia

"This above all: to thine own self be true."

These photos were inspired by Sir John Everett Millais' painting "Ophelia," depicting the character Ophelia in Shakespeare's play, Hamlet just after she drowned in a river in Denmark. Despite the grim ending of Ophelia, I can't help but to be drawn to such beautiful, romantic, and flower-adorned images, especially when there is such a wonderfully elaborate back story.

Fairy Tale Town

It's hard to believe that the seaside town of Amafli could get anymore beautiful, but as nightfall came, homes and restaurants along the cliff-side lit up with warm yellow lights. The ocean water reflected iridescent sparkles of the moonlight as boats sailed across the quiet sea. I couldn't help but feel I had just landed in a story book, in a town that only existed in fairy-tales. The Amalfi coastline was most certainly one of my favorite places we visited along our remarkable journey... 

Because we stayed only the weekend, I tried to pack as lightly as possible. I opted for this simple, all-black outfit that I could use to mix-match the few pieces that I brought to transition from day to night.

At night, I would just sit on our balcony overlooking the ocean, soaking it all in, not wanting to close my eyes for fear of missing a single moment. Families laughing as they walked on the sidewalk below us as they returned home, boats sounding off bells as they returned to shore, and the glistening moonlight dancing on the calm ocean water. These are images of Amalfi that I will never forget. 

DRAGON TAMER

This week we explored the desert lands of Borrego Springs... All down the road there were larger-than-life sized figurines of prehistoric and mythical creatures. The sculptures were crafted by a talented artist by the name of Ricardo Breceda, who found a new talent and love in sculpting after a work injury.

I had so much fun posing with this amazing metal serpent ... To complete the "Dragon Tamer" look, I wore my knee-high black leather boots from ZARA, faux leather skirt from F21 (I just love the slits going up the leg), and red leather accessories and Black Ovi top from Chycas Boutique. I love the leather detailing on the shoulders of the top, as well as the snake-like pattern on the bracelet--it really mimicked the giant scales on the gargantuan 350 foot dragon.

All White

A few weeks ago I spent my saturday morning at my aunt's house taking portraits of my family for my grandpa's birthday. Here's a picture of the simple white outfit I wore. My favorite part of this white linen dress is the detail on the chest. I paired it up with some white strappy wedges to complete the simple yet classic look.

Spider's Web

 

 When I first saw this top, I was enamored by the intricate detail of it's lacey design. It's complex detail and pattern remind me of that of a delicate Spider's Web (Hence the name of the blog post!). I got this top back when Bebe Sport's store "PH8" was still open and paired it up with a black body suit from Victoria's Secret, as well as some burgundy lipstick and nail polish for an edgier look.

Lapis Lazuli

The beautiful ultramarine color of Lapis Lazuli has been used in artwork throughout the ages and has been the inspiration point for many painters. A combination of it's extremely rich and vibrant color as well as the rarity of the precious stone from which it is extracted from only add to the admiration and beauty of the amazing artworks it has adorned. I love this dress because it almost captures the vibrant cobalt blue tone of Lapis Lazuli.

Where Forest Meets the Sea

On the way to Big Sur, we stopped at a rest point on the side of the road. Pine trees covered the ground up to the cliffs that dropped down to the ocean. It was beautiful! I was wearing this beige lace maxi dress--I love the romantic, soft feel it gives me.
